To Any Interested Party --
Currently, there rests an interesting artifact at Columbia's circa-1868 Ensor-Keenan House, which is run by the city's Department of Parks and Recreation, and is being rehabilitated for future rental use. Apparently, the piece was given to the site by the Governor's Mansion, which has related that the piece does not fall within its scope of collections.
According to my research the artifact represents an 1880s/1890s sideboard/server. The piece's dimensions are 100"L x 100"H x 28' W. My description would land somewhere between Jacobean Revival and Eclectic Revival. It certainly has one or two Medieval elements, but it also has carotids and stylized lion heads. Pseudo trumpet legs contain Rococo Revival elements such as fruit. The "gallery" mimics a barrel vaulted ceiling. Other elements include Georgian style columns and pilasters and Gothic-inspired pendants.
The City of Columbia has no interest in retaining the artifact for its use and would like to dispose of it. If you are interested in this piece or may know of a private party who would be, please contact superintendant Jeff Rainwater at jlrainwater at columbiasc.net.
Overall, this artifact is an interesting piece that is worthy of preservation and should not be destroyed (as it may be), as it has both intrinsic historic and monetary value.
