The Pickens County Museum and Table Rock State Park
presents
"An Old Time Dance & Frolic at the Barn"
THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7
The Pickens County Museum of Art & History and the Hagood Mill Historic
Site & Folklife Center, partnering with Table Rock State Park, invites
you to join us in the mountains for an evening of fun and "frolic" in
the form of a true Appalachian Square Dance as "Music in the Mountains
2006" continues on Saturday October 7 from 6:30 until 8:30pm. with an
"Old Time Dance & Frolic at the Barn". The Barn at Table Rock State Park
will indeed rock with the sounds of old time music and step-dances of
yesteryear.
The pulsating mountain rhythms will be furnished by the raucous Long
Mountain Ramblers ("Steve 'n' Dean" and Friends) string band. Come up to
Table Rock's quiet, mountainous setting and you will be swept back 100
years to a time and place much easier and more laid back than today's
hectic pace.
It is easy to pick right up on the dance steps since you will be guided
by one of the Southeast's most accomplished dance callers, Master
Frederick Park, esq., who has called folk dances all over the world.
Frederick Park has been collecting and teaching traditional dances for
more than 35 years. Raised in Appalachia, his first love is the dances
of the Southern Mountains though he is a recognized authority on
English, Scottish, Scandinavian and French traditions. He has been a
guest instructor at most major traditional dance festivals in our
country and many abroad. He is the consummate blend of
teacher/entertainer and is widely regarded as a master Storyteller. Mr.
Park is adroit at blending outrageous fun with just enough history to
keep all entertained, dancers and non-dancers alike.
Join us from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. for this evening of fun and
entertainment. $ 5.00 for adults and FREE for children 13 and under.
Whether you decide to join the fun and frolic on the floor or just come
by and "set-a-spell" you'll want to come back and relive the Table Rock
square dances of years gone by.
Table Rock State Park, operated by the South Carolina Department of
Parks, Recreation and Tourism is just off Cherokee Foothills Scenic Hwy
11 in the northeastern corner of Pickens County. The Table Rock Barn can
be found by entering the Park's West Gate, turning left at the Table
Rock Store and continuing straight until you reach the barn.
"Music in the Mountains 2006" is sponsored by a private benefactor and a
donation from the Duke Power Company.
