Chief Interpreter, Historic Houses
The Charleston Museum seeks an energetic, professionally qualified
individual for the full-time position of Chief Interpreter for two National
Historic Landmark houses, the Heyward-Washington House (c. 1772) and Joseph
Manigault House (c. 1803). Primary duties include management of daily
operations; giving tours to the public; scheduling/supervision of custodial
and interpretive staff; oversight of houses interpretation; care of historic
building fabric/furnishings; fiscal administration; and supervision of
housekeeping and security.
Qualified candidate will possess a B.A. in American history or related
historic preservation/museum studies discipline, and a minimum of three
years operational experience at an historic site. Supervisory or other
leadership experience critical.
