 "Journeys with Sam Wang"

Renown photographer to lecture at the Pickens County Museum

The Pickens County Museum is offering a free educational lecture
program, "Journeys with Sam Wang", on Thursday, July 5, 6:00 pm - 7:00
pm. Join the acclaimed photographer in the LaVonne Nalley Piper
Auditorium as he shares his 2006 "Artists' tour of China", accompanied
by some of the finest photography educators now working in the United
States.

Recently asked for an artist statement about photography, Sam Wang said,
"Photography to me means observation, exploration, and discovery: I
enjoy the search for answers. These images are less about the subject
matter, but more about perception: what's important is not what we see
but how we see it, feel it, and perhaps, dream it."

Sam's work has been exhibited and published widely. His work is
currently displayed in the Sealevel Gallery at the Pickens County Museum
where you can visit and enjoy the "Trends in Photography" exhibition.

Sam Wang was born in China and grew up in Hong Kong. He received an MFA
in 1966 from the University of Iowa with a concentration in photography.
He retired a year ago with the title of Alumni Distinguished Professor
of Art at Clemson University, where he taught photography and "art with
computer". He also participated in developing the MFA in DPA (Digital
Production Arts) program that prepares students for the computer
animation industry.

This program is part of the Pickens County Museum's continuing effort to
provide a variety of entertaining and educational programming for the
community. It is funded in part by donations from Isaqueena Questers
Chapter #1235, Carroll M. Wilson and the sponsorship of Reliable
Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc.

The museum, located at the intersection of Highway 178 and Johnson
Street in Pickens, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-5
p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.-.4:30
p.m..

For additional information call the museum at (864) 898-5963.
