[Scmusenet] Message from the SCFM President

Dear SCFM Members -

Earlier this year support for submitting legislation that would offer,
as an option to those institutions that wish to pursue it, the
opportunity to sign up for state insurance benefits came to my
attention. Momentum has grown for this endeavor and at this time support
for the initiative is being gauged further.

As president of SCFM I was contacted to determine whether or not the
Federation would endorse further investigation of this potential
insurance opportunity. I subsequently polled the members of SCFM's
executive committee, who were amenable to having SCFM included in those
entities pledging support of legislation that would allow museums
throughout the state to participate in this on a voluntary basis, should
the bill pass. Again, by signing on we, the members of SCFM, would
simply be interested in having legislation passed that would grant the
option to participate in the state health plan. This option may prove
beneficial to you or it may not. Ultimately, each museum would have to
weigh the pros and cons, should legislation pass to make participating
in the system possible.

The next step in this process is to assess how many SCFM member
institutions might be willing to participate in this potential insurance
opportunity, and if so, how many employees might be affected.
Consequently, we are polling members as this affect via the listserv as
this hopefully will give us a baseline from which to extrapolate
potential participants. Please respond to this message, or contact me

lobbying for this opportunity to voluntarily participate in the state
health plan.
