[Scmusenet] FW: [AASLH-SmallMuseums] IMLS Connecting to Collections Bookshelf

I can testify to this! Patriots Point was one of the six (yes, only six!!)
of the dozens of eligible museums, libraries and archives in South Carolina
who appear to have applied during the first round.

As Rickie says, the books and ancillary materials (including some dynamite
collections care stuff on DVD) are excellent. Even though we have an good
professional development library, only one book was a duplicate (Malaro) and
that was a later edition than the one in our PD library. And some of the
volumes included are special reprints or prints for this grant program so
are not readily acquired from Amazon or Barnes and Noble, even if you have
an unlimited budget.

If you want to get a preview of the books and other materials included, have
a look at the guide to the Bookshelf at www.imls.gov/pdf/BookshelfGuide.pdf.

I want to encourage everyone to look into this opportunity. We applied
during the first period and it really is an easu process. The books
themselves were wonderful and definitely "must haves" for collections care.

Final Countdown for the Bookshelf Application!
Don't miss out on your last chance to apply for the IMLS Connecting to
Collections Bookshelf, the free resource from IMLS. It is the simplest
application that you will ever fill out on behalf of your institution. There
are no matching funds required, no complicated final report, and no long
narratives or budgets to fill out. The application is online at
www.aaslh.org/Bookshelf. Just describe your greatest collections need and
how you will use the resources in the Bookshelf. There are 12 simple
questions and only four require a brief paragraph to answer.
In the first period, there were over 850 applications awarded the Bookshelf.
These institutions vary from aquariums to historic sites to museums to
libraries to archives and zoos. AASLH looks forward to serving the field in
this application period. So don't mess out! The application will only be
open until April 30.
If you have any questions or comments about the Bookshelf or the application
process, please do not hesitate to contact Terry Jackson at 615-320-3203 or
by email jackson at aaslh.org.
